The Utah Donut Index
Every type we make, what it actually is, and what it costs. Written as a reference rather than a menu — if you have ever wondered what separates an old fashioned from a cake donut, or what a kolache is, this is the page.
| Item | Type | Price | What it is |
|---|---|---|---|
| Glazed | Donut | $1.50 · $15.00 dozen | A raised yeast donut dipped in a thin sugar glaze that sets to a shell. The baseline donut against which every other one is judged. Best within a few hours of frying, which is the whole argument for buying them early. |
| Assorted | Donut | $2.25 · $22.50 dozen | Whatever the case is stocked with that morning — iced, filled, topped, sprinkled. Ordering assorted is how you get variety without choosing. |
| Cake donut | Donut | $2.50 · $25.00 dozen | Made with a chemically leavened batter rather than yeast dough, so the crumb is dense and tender rather than airy. Holds a heavy glaze without collapsing and keeps better through the day than a raised donut. |
| Old fashioned | House specialty | $2.50 · $25.00 dozen | A cake donut fried at a temperature and shape that makes the surface crack open, giving crisp ridges and a dense interior. The cracks catch glaze, which is the point. One of our two house specialties. Rings up as a cake donut. |
| Specialty donut | Donut | $2.75 · $27.50 dozen | The decorated ones in the front case — iced, drizzled, topped, filled. What is in the case changes with the morning and the season. |
| Custom donut | Made to order | $3.00 · $36.00 dozen | Decorated to your order rather than picked from the case: colours for a party, hearts in February, a team's colours for a Monday meeting. Call the shop ahead. See our guide to custom donuts. |
| Cronut | House specialty | $3.99 each | Laminated croissant dough — folded around butter dozens of times — fried like a donut. Crisp and shattering outside, flaky and hollow inside. Buttery rather than sweet. Cannot be made mid-morning, so it sells out early. Full explanation. |
| Donut holes | Donut | $3.75 a cup | The centres, fried and sugared or glazed, sold by the cup. The most efficient way to feed a group of children ever devised. |
| Kolache — small | Kolache | $2.50 · $26.50 dozen | A soft, slightly sweet enriched roll baked around a savoury filling. Ham and cheese, sausage and cheese, either with jalapeño. Czech in origin, Texan in its savoury form, and made by almost no other donut shop in Utah. What a kolache is. |
| Kolache — large | Kolache | $4.75 · $49.50 dozen | The full-breakfast version: bacon, egg, cheese and potato; sausage, egg, cheese and potato; sausage, egg and gravy; ham ranchero. One of these replaces a drive-through breakfast. |
| Dinner rolls — baked | Bakery | $6.95 a dozen | Made from the same enriched dough tradition as the kolache, baked and ready to eat. Ordered most heavily around holidays. |
| Dinner rolls — frozen | Bakery | $4.95 a dozen | The same rolls, unbaked, to take home and finish in your own oven so they arrive at the table hot. |
| Dirty soda | Drink | Counter price · Ogden | A Utah institution: fountain soda built with cream, flavoured syrup and often coconut or lime. Served at The Soda Run counter, which operates alongside our Ogden shop only. What dirty soda is. |
| Perks coffee | Drink | Counter price · Ogden & St. George | Specialty coffee from a local roaster, poured at our Ogden and St. George shops. |
| Fresh ground coffee | Drink | $2.50 | Brewed through the morning at every shop, from 5:00am. |
Prices are the ones on the boards in our shops. Every dozen is buy ten, get two free. Items marked to a single shop are made only there.
Ask the shop
Delivery
We are on DoorDash, and for larger orders and weddings the shops will often deliver directly. It comes down to the day and whether someone is free, so call the shop you want to order from and ask. For anything time-critical, pickup is the sure thing — and every shop is open at 5:00am.
Things we are asked for and do not make
Worth saying plainly so nobody drives out for something we do not have.
- Edible photo-printed icing. We decorate by hand — colour, icing, sprinkles, drizzle and shape. Photo prints are a different craft.
- Gluten-free or vegan donuts. We fry and bake in a shared kitchen with wheat, dairy and egg throughout, so we cannot honestly offer either.
